Looking at my blog tonight, I realize how poor of a job I do at blogging. Two posts last year – guess that does not exactly set any records for posting to your blog, now does it.

Lets see if 2012 brings me motivation to post a few more entries. I had a nice Christmas considering how ugly of a year my wife and I have had. We’ve been unfortunate in this economy – she lost her job in March and I’ve been on a few months of 32 hour work weeks, so it has been an ugly year to say the least. But, we’ve made the best of it and I still have my house and although I’m as broke as I was in college, I don’t have the bill collectors calling. I’ve been able to tread water just well enough to stay a little bit ahead of disaster.

Maybe motivation and work will find me in 2012……….I sure hope so.

Both of my sons are are very talented musicians and I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying them perform for several years now. My oldest son, Joseph, is an amazing drummer in a band called WormsLoew. Joseph also performs with his good friend from WormsLoew, Andrew. They do acoustic shows and I really enjoy these because I get to hear Joseph sing a bit more than he normally does with the band.

My youngest son Adam has performed locally in acoustic settings, but has recently joined the band “Too Years To Long”. I have not had the pleasure of hearing them live yet, but their recorded music is amazing.

Paddle Out for John Regan 1/16/2011

When the surfing community looses one of it own, as a tribute or a memorial gesture for them, we have what we call a Paddle Out. Everyone brings a flower and we paddle out past the waves and form a circle. Words are spoken in love of our lost one, funny stories are shared, great memories are shared… Here are a few photos from my friend John Regan’s Paddle Out in St. Augustine Beach, FL.

“The Easterns” – September 2010

This year’s Easterns, the Eastern Surfing Association’s championships, started of with very large waves and finished in small surf. The days prior to the contest, we saw 5 to 10 broken boards per day. Day one and two of the contest was still board breaking surf, but the surf quickly dropped and was a little disappointing for the finals. Fun week in Cape Hatteras thought !!

…it is getting “that time of year”…Hurricane Season. As a surfer, I am in one of those odd groups that actually welcomes bad weather. Now don’t get me wrong, I never wish for a hurricane to make landfall, only to skirt the coast and push waves our way!

We currently have a nice low pressure system off our coast and I surfed in St. Augustine last weekend and on Tybee for the last few days in some fun “after work” sessions. I so love to surf, but my 52 year old body is not liking it as much as it use to. I really feel the effects after a big day of getting worked over by larger waves. Small days don’t seem to bother me at all, but after Monday afternoon’s session, my body is asking me what the heck is going on!! It will not keep me out of the water, but I find I’m using a bit more caution on my wave selections these days…

Joseph’s New Years Eve show – Live Wire 12/31/2009

My oldest son, Joseph, has played in a band for many years and they have decided to take a bit of a break with the new year. Joseph and his good friend Andrew Gill, who was also in WormsLoew with Joseph, played a show at the Live Wire Music Hall on New Years Eve. Joseph and Andrew, along with their friend Kevin Arpin on bass and Sam Saussy on keyboards opened for Bobbie Lee Rogers. It was fun to see them play again, but I’ll miss the WormsLoew shows. They toured every weekend throughout the Southeast and occasionally made their way back to Savannah. I’m sure both Joseph and Andrew will be playing music somewhere, with someone. Paddle out for Ashley Mosely 10/24/2009

We recently lost a very young member of our surfing community in a tragic automobile accident. Ashley and his twin brother Noah, had recently gotten very stoked about surfing and were becoming quite a part of our little, local surf community. But, we lost Ashley and his spirit will be missed.
The local Surfrider Foundation Chapter held a Paddle-Out for Ashley prior to one of our GA District ESA events. With a nice turnout, a hearty group of friends, surfers and fellow spirits were ushered into the hazy waves by the beautiful sound of bagpipes.
We will miss you Ashley…
